WE ASKED: Do
you shop at fanners'
markets? What do you
enjoy about them?
WE HAVE A WEEKLY
farmer’s
market on our main street in front
of City Hall. All traffic is stopped,
and farmers, some with large farms
and others with smaller efforts, set
up stands from which they sell just
about anything that grows in our
part of the country. I love going
because not only is everything
fresh and reasonably priced, it is
also a delightful social time. I get
to see young mothers with their
new babies, senior citizens with
memories of their victory gardens
during World War II, and friends
who spend winter months away
from our New England climate.

I KEEP A LIST
of local farmers’
markets posted on the refrigerator.
Throughout the season, my two
toddlers and I pack a little wagon
in the trunk of the car and go on a
“fruit and veggie adventure.” The
kids love the wagon ride, helping
pick out their food, and talking
with the local farmers.

I REALLY ENJOY
the farmer’s
market! It’s one of the best things
about summer. All the produce is
love to know.
..
a know a “Better Homes
ardens” person—someone
always thinking up
ve ways to better her
;? Tell us about her (or you!)
fresh, bright, yummy, and is really a
good deal. The whole experience is
exciting—shopping in the outdoors,
discovering the best deal for
tomatoes, splurgingon the wild-
flower bouquet. What more could a
girl ask for in a shopping trip?

WE LOVE THE FARMER’S
market.
The homemade breads, honeys,
and fresh vegetables are so good
and delicious. It makes us proud
that we are supporting local farmers
and artisans who are providing-
good nutrition.

FROM EARLY MAY
until the
pumpkins roll in fall, local growers
gather around our historic
courthouse on the square with a
variety of fresh-picked vegetables
and fruits to sell. There is nothing-
better than a homegrown Texas
tomato or a juicy cantaloupe. Local
folks support the growers in our
area, realizing that small farms
are decreasing every year due to
the economy, not to mention the
challenges of producing a crop
in Texas whether it be late frost,
lack of or too much rain, or the
heat of summer.

MY FAMILY
loves fresh vegetables:
strawberries in June, Honey Rock
melons in August, and apples in the
fall. The produce tastes better than
it does from the grocery store, and
I know where it’s grown. In some
instances, I know the farm and
the farmer.
